The brand new Dalston Junction station will open, becoming part of the London Overground network.
After a number of cancelled launch dates, it was uncertain as to whether today will go ahead. But we have received confirmation from London Reconnections and also the BBC are reporting.
A service of eight trains an hour will run between New Cross Gate and Dalston Junction, between 0700 BST and 2000 BST, Monday to Friday.
Full evening and weekend services will begin from Saturday 23 May, when 12 trains will run per an hour.
Trains will run through Whitechapel station and Shoreditch High Street, a flagship Zone 1 station.
It is expected that London Mayor Boris Johnson will officially open the route around 10am.
The opening is the first phase of the £1bn extension, agreed in 2003 by the former Labour administration.
Are you riding on the train today? Let us know!

ReportUsed it last Friday. Very quick and clean, love what they've to the stations, both old and new. Yes, there were trainspotters there...

ReportJust been on one from Dalston Junction to Haggerston, to see what it's like. Love the stations, redolent of the Jubilee line but with a flash of orange. Also, the trains are great, especially the air-con, and the fact that you can walk from one end to the other without going through any doors. I noticed quite a few trainspotters -- or maybe that's just my imagination....
Have an errand to run in Whitechapel tomorrow - can't wait to give it another run-out!
