The one-way traffic diversion on Stoke Newington Church Street in Hackney is due to be removed at the end of the week.

New pavements and road surfacing work is nearing completion, and the diversion will be removed on Friday.

Major works to improve and regenerate the area along Church Street started last September.

Two-way traffic will return to the street, which is a key economic and social centre within Hackney, as the road surfacing works come to an end. The footway works, at the end of the road between Wilmer Place and the High Street, will continue without the need for a traffic diversion and are expected to be completed in April.

Rosanne Berry, Chair of Stoke Newington Business Association, said: “The street is already looking good and is uniform, thanks to the Council and the workmen who have done a great job and kept us involved and updated throughout the project. We are really looking forward to the works being completed and the area once again thriving and active.”
