A man was shot dead on Ickburgh Road in Clapton, Hackney, last night.

Police were called to the scene around 2250 BST yesterday (Monday) where they found a 21 year-old man with a single gunshot wound. He was

pronounced dead at the scene.

He has not

been named but his next of kin have been informed, police said.

Two men, both in their mid-twenties, have been arrested in connection with the

murder and are being held in custody at separate east London police

stations.

Detectives from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command are investigating the murder.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said on Tuesday: "It's very early on so we're

keeping an open mind about gangs and that kind of thing.

"We're also not ruling out the possibility that the killing is related to

a murder that happened over the weekend - the shooting of Oktay Erbasli -

who was shot in front of his child by an armed biker.

Two men, in their mid-20s, were arrested and are being questioned at separate police stations.

Clapton Road and Clapton rail station are closed while investigations are carried out into the shooting.

The Police have now done a mail shot of the area, asking people to come forward if they know anything, clearly the investigation has stalled.

I have to disagree with the theory that "If you aren't connected to the gangs, then you don't have a problem". My flat and those of my neighbours were peppered with bullet holes during the brutal slaying of Barrington Williams-Samuels in January 2006.

I lived seven months in Hackney Downs and crossed the park dozens of time at night. Bumbed into some guys on bikes some times. They simply ignored me. I agree with marty21, all this seems to be a gang thing. I may be wrong, but compared to where I come from (east of Paris), I would say there are more gang related killings, to be less random attacks. Having said that, Hackney is an interesting place to live.

Do you have a solution then Kris, that stays within the law?

I don't want to see gangs of Juvenile Nihilists roaming the streets, I'm sure the gang members wouldn't be able to tell anyone what that means tbf.

I guess if it is drug related crime, then legalisation of all drugs would be a way to counter that, prices drop, it's regulated, no need for a gang culture to keep the trade going. Plus if drugs are no longer illegal, then the Police are freed up to deal with other stuff, like chasing down all these nihilists.
