London braced for Tube strikes this evening

Thousands of Londoners are due to be affected tonight when the first is a series of London Underground Tube strikes is set to begin.

London Underground workers are planning a walkout from 5pm tonight until 9pm tomorrow. Check TFL updates here.

The East London Line is expected to be unaffected.

The Rail Maritime and Transport (RMT) and the Transport Salaried Staffs Association (TSSA) unions are fighting plans to cut 800 ticket office staffing jobs, claiming security could be compromised for passengers.

Tube passengers have been advised by officials to find an alternative way of getting home in London later.

An extra 100 buses and 10,000 more passenger journeys on Thames riverboat services are being laid on.

Barclay's Cycle Hire Scheme is expected to be in high demand over the following day.
