Little London Fields Festival is now BACK ON!

Hackney Council have had a change of heart, and the festival has now been changed to a one day event (as opposed to two) and the date has been moved to Saturday 20th August 2011.

Festival organiser Alex Daw said: "I think the council were a bit concerned of the scale and ambition of last years event, given how successful it was and how busy the park has become over the summer months."

He added, about the change of date, "It's such a shame as June 4th & 5th were concrete for us and a way of laying down the gauntlet to the rest of the festival calendar, we cant do that now but will do everything we can to ensure that the festival in August will be special."

Little London Fields Festival has been cancelled, organisers announced today.

The free festival, which started last year, has not been given permission to go ahead by Hackney Council.

Organiser Alex Daw posted on the festival website today that with "frustration and regret" they have had to cancel the event, scheduled for June 4th and 5th 2011.

The festival was due to feature a number of stages in London Fields along with a dance tent, and various art displays. However the Council are opposing the event in its current form.

Daw commented that last year's festival was a success and there was "zero crime" reported.

The organisers are continuing to fight the decision, but petitions and endorements from key industry professionals have not managed to change the council's mind.

Hackney Council are yet to comment.

Did you attend the event last year? What did you think?

Popular Dalston nightspot The Nest commented on Twitter: "This is very sad and frankly ridiculous news!"

Richard Harmon, 24 year old Hackney resident, who attended Little London Fields last year said: "It was a great day last year, I can't understand why the Council wouldn't want it to go ahead. It must have brought money to businesses around London Fields which is a good thing, right?"

Thank you to DalstonDin for pointing us to the news.

That's great news. I should think so too. I agree with Richard Harmon. What a load of idiots on the Council - cutting off their noses etc.....
