Clearing out your home? Why not make your unwanted items a free treat for someone and bring it along to one of Hackney’s regular recycling event?
The Council’s Recycling Team is holding a Give or Take day on Sunday 19 September, 12 - 5pm, at Leabank Square, E9, as part of the Hackney Wick Festival. It’s an ideal opportunity to say goodbye to those unwanted items lurking in the back of the cupboard.
Previous events have been a big success, with residents giving away household items such as toys, clothes, books, tools, kitchenware - even bikes and furniture. What might seem like a pile of useless bits and bobs could be the perfect addition to another person’s home.
Big items such as fridges are not accepted and all smaller electrical items will be safety tested at the event. Everything is free; no money is exchanged and you don’t have to give something to take something.
Steve Douglas, Director for Neighbourhoods and Regeneration, said:
“Our Give or Take days really help to divert materials from entering the waste stream. They’re a fun way for people to see what can be recycled and reused, and how they can help to reduce waste in Hackney.”
