Boost for Dalston
The programme includes a walking tour of developing Dalston.
Hackney Council has organised three informative walking tours that will give families the opportunity to take part in a healthy, fun activity while learning something new about the local area.
Highlights include a fun trail around Lea Valley, where you can take part in a challenge quiz and games, spot local wildlife, discover the newly opened towpath and take in Hackney Marshes and Springfield Park.
In addition, the secrets of Shoreditch will be revealed in a tour that delves into the history of this creative hub of London along with the contemporary art galleries in the area.
The final tour of the series is a chance to discover the real Dalston. Find out about the history, the people and the place as it undergoes its biggest changes since World War II.
Councillor Feryal Demirci, Cabinet Member for neighbourhoods, said: “Walking has many great benefits for individuals and the borough. These tours are a fun way for the whole family to discover Hackney and its vibrant history, while taking some free, simple steps towards a healthy lifestyle.”
The Council will also continue its ongoing ‘Walk of Hackney’ competition. If you have a favourite walk in Hackney that you want to share, just enter the competition for a chance to get it published. Email details of your walk to: movegreener@hackney.gov.uk; or by post to: Laura White, 1 Casterton Street, Hackney, E8 1FB.
