It's official - summer is over. Although we are getting some good weather in Dalston, we all know that the next bank-holiday is Christmas and stress levels are on the rise.

Why not treat yourself this September and discover some of the pampering delights on offer in Hackney?
Turkish Bath Hamam
Although it may look suspicious, the Turkish Bath Hamam on Crossway offers the most traditional types of turkish bath available. The process involved in taking a Turkish bath is similar to that of a sauna, but is more closely related to the ancient Roman bathing practices. You can get a steam and massage for £20. They also offer a range of massages including sports, anti stress and cellulite all for under £30. It is ladies only 10-3 on Wednesdays and Saturdays and the rest of the time it's men. You can book appoitment on 0207 249 55 54.
Wah Nails
Wah Nails describes itself as a badass nail salon which opened last year in Dalston. The brand was started by young entrepreneur Sharmadean Reid after she started the fanzine WAH to promote females in creative industries. She opened the creative space where locals can "hang out, read zines and get their nails done." The company also has an outlet in Oxford Street's Topshop and is regularly blogged and written about. They create the craziest nails, with glitter, transfers and diamonds on in any design you desire. Katy Perry is a big fan of loud nails, including leopard print designs! Currently they are offering a 10% discount on Twitter.
Las Vegas Nails and New York Nails also offer similar services but maybe not quite so crazy!
Acorn Health & Fitness
Acorn offers such a wide range of martial arts including kickboxing, muay thai and sparring - but this isn't exactly relaxing but may release some pent up stress! The health centre on Shacklewell Lane also offers yoga and thai chi classes. The website states: "Many people think that yoga is just stretching. But while stretching is certainly involved, yoga is really about creating balance in the body through developing both strength and flexibility. This is done through the performance of poses or postures, each of which has specific physical benefits." Yoga classes are set to begin this autumn. The centre also offers a number of treatments including Indian Head massages and Thai-Yoga massages! You can sign up for a free kickboxing introduction class here.
Yoga in the Park
Talking of yoga, Pama Yoga offer some classes with a difference, such as Yoga in the Park. On a Saturday morning in London Fields you can welcome in the weekend with some fresh air and sun salutations. The £9 session begins at 9.15am and you need to bring your own mat. Unfortunately it is weather dependent! Pama Yoga also do indoor classes throughout the year.
Spa London
If you really want to treat yourself then why not check out Spa London in York Hall, Bethnal Green. The spa recently won a Professional Beauty Award, and offers a "luxurious experience at an affordable price". The spa is located within the historic York Hall and offers both thermal treatments and the latest modern therapies. They have everything from hot stone massages (£67) to mud wraps (£70). There are also group bookings and promotions available including the Dare to Bare Summer Special - book a manicure and get a free pedicure or vice versa! Offer extends till 30th September 2010.
Hairdressers
I have tried both Good Old Days and Broadway Hair Boutique hairdressers on Broadway and they are both very good and I have been pleased with the cut. However they are both rather pricey.
I have been recommended Aqffin on Commercial Street near Spitalfields. They do all sorts including highlights, tinting and Japanese straightening. A bright, querky salon as opposed to the dark, boudoir venues on Broadway. Check out the prices here. Top Hair London is also a cheaper alternative that has been recommended and is located on Mare Street.
Comments
Re hairdressers, I've been disappointed with so many salons across london over the years that I've never been to the same place twice. Seriously, I've tried everything from Tommy Guns to Charles Worthington and I wouldn't go back.
So I thought I might as well try the lovely turkish hairdressers, Haydar, that I take my daughter to on Stoke Newington Road as they always do such a good job with her bob. And I thoroughly recommend it.
It doesn't look like much from the outside, nor inside, it's pretty basic and always empty, but twice I've been convinced to do something different with my hair and both times it made it a huge difference to my face and I was extremely impressed. And they only charge £18! Why wouldn't I go back?
I don't know the name of the main man (trendy grey-haired Turkish guy, limited English), but I whole heartedly recommend the place. It might not look trendy, and it's certainly not expensive, but the guy really knows what he's doing. Plus you can just walk in off the street and don't need to book:

ReportI went to Spa London a while ago and although I had a reasonably enjoyable time there and felt that for £21.50 for 3 hours (which is plenty) it was good value, there were a few things that have stopped me going back - for a start I had to return the first dressing gown handed to me as when I opened it to put it on, there was a big lump of someone else's long brown knotted hair inside it (I am blonde) which made my stomach turn. They then gave me a vacuum packed brand new one which was fine though I couldn't help but question the rest of the spas hygiene from thereon. In the spa there were at least a couple of hen-parties (we went on the female only morning) they were really loud and made the atmosphere totally unrelaxing. There does not seem to be any 'quiet zone' etiquette in there as in other spas. Also some of the sauna rooms felt a little damp and cold - in one all the girls were standing on the benches in order to get their faces in the steam which was collecting at the top of the ceiling so I got the feeling that they were not quite working properly. Would like to go back and be proved wrong though as, like I said, for convenience and price this has the potential to be a real gem. Has anyone else been there? Would you recommend giving it another chance?
