Loop Collective – Upload Festival
Building on the success of previous festivals programmed by The Loop Collective, UPLOAD is a multi-platform, two-day festival featuring a stunningly diverse programme of new projects.
Performances will range from 20 drummers playing on Dalston's Gillett Square, to a club night featuring boundary-pushing African music, to a specially commissioned large ensemble bringing together some of Europe's most forward thinking improvisers and composers.
True to its name, the festival will extend into the digital universe with performances being instantly made available online at http://tinyurl.com/67dvnem in a variety of mediums.
From 1.00pm – FREE – In Gillett Square
20 drummers (and drum kits!) will convene on Gillett Square and perform a one-off piece of music, featuring some of the finest drummers/percussionists in the UK and surely one of London's musical highlights of 2012. Throughout the afternoon, the festival will feature a number of surprise pop-up acts and intimate performances around the square.
From 8.00pm
Pierre-Alexandre Tremblay / Alex Bonney
Kit Downes / Seb Rochford
Drummer Seb Rochford and pianist Kit Downes have been playing together in different combinations for a number of years, but it is in this duo that they have been able to explore their mutual interests that lie between the composed and improvised. Written by both musicians, their music is a mixture of quiet layered patterns and small bursts of colour.
Cat's Cradle
Specially formed for the Upload festival Cat's Cradle is a large ensemble featuring Loop Members and close collaborators including Dan Nichols and Kit Downes (keyboards), Dave Smith (drums), PA Tremblay and Johnny Brierley (bass), Rory Simmons and Alex Bonney (trumpets), Robin Fincker, James Allsop and Tom Challenger (reeds). The ensemble will be playing specially composed material for this event.
