Gannets
Formed by Fyfe Dangerfield (keyboards, electronics and voice), Gannets have a reputation for playing ecstatic high energy music that is completely improvised, skewing electronic and pop together with the spirit of free jazz.
They feature some of Britain's key players on the contemporary circuit – Alex Ward (clarinet), Chris Cundy (clarinets and electronics), Dominic Lash (double bass) and Steve Noble (drums).
In their own words, "Gannets posit an alternative jazz history in which 30's swing developed straight into a combined form of the free jazz and fusion movements, without any of the intervening decades."
"The abstract improv version of the Guillemots" (The Guardian).
Trio Riot
Fronting an unusual line up of two saxophonists – Mette Rasmussen (alto), Sam Andreae (tenor) and David Meier (drums), Trio Riot have performed extensively across Scandinavia and the UK over the past couple of years.
The band relate their sense of energy to the 1980s British punk scene. Their approach is inspired by Ornette Coleman and other free jazz pioneers and their compositional style draws inspiration from 20th century contemporary music.
"These two sax players together are a formidable combination" (Jazzpace Blog).
