MUGGING WARNING

Email from a De Beauvoir resident: "Just a warning to others, my 15
year old son was mugged on Wednesday afternoon, at around 3pm by a
gang of about 5 youths on De Beauvoir Road, near the junction of
Stamford road, going towards the Catholic Primary School. Sadly, quite
a few adults walked passed and did not intervene and his phone and
cash were taken. Thankfully, no knives were used and the local police
were brilliant and responded very quickly, arresting two of the gang
on Kingsland High St. The phone has not been found and it appears it
was immediately 'sold' to one of the dodgy phone booths that operate
at the front of other shops on Kingsland High St.

A very big thanks to Mick's garage, who let my son phone the police
from there. Nice to know that some people do care."

A couple of my friends were mugged recently in Clapton of one of their phones. A group of lads came up to them and asked for the time, my friend pulled out his phone to check and they snatched it and ran off. It was an iPhone. Interestingly the other friend that went after them (which was a poor judgement but instant reaction) was then attacked, but as he had an old nokia - they did not take the phone and instead punched him in the head.

Good to hear that Mick's garage helped your son when he needed it. During the incident one would hope that someone would jump to your rescue but I guess passers-by are worried that they too will end up having to take a blow - or worse - for the sake of a mobile phone. it is a tricky one.
