I've seen loads of good music and theatre here, and it's such a nice space with a really down to earth feeling. Comfy seats, reasonable tickets prices, friendly service and good shows. Support it if you can.

I can't work out whether this place is still going or not, as last time I went they said they were shutting down, but then my boss told me he went to see something there the other day. I guess that means it survived, and quite right too, as it's an absolute gem. A stunning venue which gives Hackney some much deserved and needed grandeur, it easily competes with some of the more pompous venues in central London, but without the price tag or the attitude. There are some great things on here, and if you're on the lookout for things to do over Christmas then I highly recommend the pantomine. I used to watch them as a child, and then I decided to show my Italian then-boyfriend the English festive traditions so I booked tickets to last year's showing of Aladin. My ex and I are both well over the target audience for these things, but we both found ourselves literally dancing in the aisles and a good time was had by all. Hackney Empire is a credit to the east end'screative community, long may it reign supreme!
