Why on earth has no one reviewed this yet?! I hope it's not because they haven't been because for anyone living in Hackney that would be a sin! This is one of the best, if not the best local theatres in London. I've been here countless times over the last few years and have almost always been impressed with everything about it. The stafff are friendly, the seating area in the lounge is good, although never big enough for the crowds it draws in. The drinks are well priced. But best of all, the performances themselves are always high class, imaginative and compelling. Arcola seems to take on a very moral position as a theatre which means it shows lots of thoughful plays that really make you feel good - or if not good, then contemplative at the bad stuff. The most unique thing about this place is the staging which changes so drastically and always manages to be a success, no matter how stange or unfeasable. I saw one performance with cars in the set, one promenade Shakespeare, one of everything! The theatre itself is moving now, and taking on bigger and better things I've been told. I hope it doesn't lose any of it's magic when it hits the high street.
