Nursery celebrates outstanding ofsted report in Hackney

Wentworth Nursery School and Children's Centre is celebrating after being rated 'outstanding' in a recent Ofsted inspection.

The centre, in Cassland Road, has been judged outstanding since 1998, and this time impressed inspectors with its "vibrant, highly imaginative curriculum", "meticulous" safeguarding arrangements and pupils' "exemplary" behaviour.

The report said: "The nursery is led with foresight, imagination and the determination to make a difference to children's lives.

"Teachers' use of highly innovative and creative methods quickly engages and sustains children's curiosity and enthusiasm. Children's behaviour is exemplary. They become absorbed in activities that they have chosen for themselves, as well as those led by adults.

"At the heart of the school's success is its strong emphasis on ensuring that everyone has an equal chance to succeed."

Headteacher Carolyn Maples said: "I am delighted that Ofsted has recognised what a very special place Wentworth is. We have a very gifted and committed staff team, great families and wonderful children. What makes me very, very proud is that the staff use their energy, great skills and determination to make a difference to children's lives all day, every day, and have done so for many years." 

Cllr Rita Krishna, Cabinet Member for Education and Children's Services at Hackney Council, said: "This is a great result and confirms what we already know - that children in Hackney, no matter what their age, are getting a great start in life thanks to the hard work of our schools, nurseries and children's centres.
