A new humorous documentary The British Guide to Showing Off by legendary British artist and champion of misfits Andrew Logan is showing at the Hackney Picturehouse.

The film was directed by Hackney resident Jes Benstock, and takes the audience on an eye-opening trip through the glamorous and at times outrageous world of Andrew Logan's costume pageant: the Alternative Miss World Show.

Logan's first ever Alternative Miss World Show in 1972 was held in a converted jigsaw factory in Hackney. As its master of ceremonies, Logan reveals the history of the Show's 40-year run, the archive footage complemented by the animation that director Jes Benstock applies. He describes the Show as his most important artwork; a fabulous living sculpture that spans four dacades of arts and culture.

Hackney Picturehouse held a special dress-up preview of The British Guide to Showing Off on Sunday 6th November. You can see Hackney folk dressed up in their most extravagant attire, flaunting their inner show-offs in this Facebook photo album here.

The film will be out on Friday  November 11th. See the Hackney Picturehouse website for details.
