The London riots have now hit Hackney, in particular Mare Street in Hackney Central.

Tension has been building all day in Narrow Way and around Hackney Central, and police presence has been building up throughout the day.

According to BBC news a stop and search provoked a large group of youths to attack the police. They have been throwing items at police, attacked lorries that have been trapped in traffic in Mare Street, and looting shops.

JD Sports at the top of Mare Street was attacked around 5pm and other windows have been smashed.

Speaking to witnesses at the scene the main group are aged between 16 and 20 and are mostly wearing hoodies, bandanas and masks.

There are now two helicopters and at least 10 police riot vans in the area. Dalston People reported on Twitter that police dogs were also present, as they were in Edmonton and Tottenham over the weekend.

Traffic is not passing through Mare Street, and overground trains are not stopping at Hackney Central Station.

So sad to see this unfolding on the TV and I feel really sorry for the people who have had their house burned down. This is what you expect in LA, not London. The police need to get a grip, and quickly.

The main group appears to be bloggers and riot tourists egging on the 16-20 year olds to fulfill the anticipated narrative.
